What ERP does a 10 person shop need?

A 10 person shop needs an ERP when orders, stock and costs no longer fit in one person's head and a spreadsheet. The right system at this size is light: a few seats, setup in weeks, stock and work orders first and costing soon after. Avoid anything that needs a consultant. Most shops start with three to six users and add seats later.

  • ERP for a 10 person company
  • small shop ERP
  • manufacturing software for 10 employees
  • do small shops need ERP

Signs you are ready

Three of the five below is enough. Waiting costs you the margin you cannot see, which is more than the software fee you are saving.

  • Two or more people change the same stock numbers and the count drifts.
  • You cannot say what last month's biggest job cost until the accountant tells you.
  • Purchase orders are raised from memory and material arrives late or twice.
  • Quotes are based on the last quote rather than the last job's real cost.
  • A customer asks for a certificate or inspection record and it takes a day to find.

What to switch on first

Do not try to run everything in month one. A 10 person shop has one person doing the setup in spare hours, so order matters.

  • Items and opening stock, with units and reorder points for the top fifty items.
  • Bills of materials for the products or job types you make most.
  • Work orders with routing steps and a printed job card.
  • Purchase orders and receipts, so stock arrives through the system.
  • Job costing once material issues and labour are flowing, usually month two or three.
  • Quality records and accounting after the operational data is trusted.

What a 10 person shop should not buy

Avoid any system priced for a project team you do not have. A product that needs a partner to configure it, a server to host it or a month of consulting to go live will stall at a shop this size, because the person doing the setup also runs the shop. Avoid long contracts before you have run a real job in the system. Avoid products with no self-serve export; at 10 people you will change systems at least once more as you grow, and your data must come with you. Finally, avoid buying for the 100 person company you hope to be; buy for the 20 person company you will be in two years.

How the pricing models differ

Small-shop ERPs are priced per user, per bundle of users, or as a flat monthly fee with limits on records or features. Per-user pricing is cheapest at three seats and grows as you add operators. Bundles step up in blocks. Flat fees are predictable but can hide limits you hit at month six. Whichever model it is, price three years with the seats you expect, ask what is in the free period if there is one, and check whether annual billing is required. Setup help, training and data import are often extra, so ask for them in writing.

Where ZMOS fits

ZMOS is sold per bundle of three seats, which fits a 10 person shop that starts with office staff and adds floor users as job cards come in. Standard is ₹2,351 a month billed annually, or ₹2,799 monthly, in INR or USD, and startups and registered partners get six months free with 3 users and no card required. It is built for sheet-metal, machining and fabrication shops, with a user guide of 54 step-by-step tasks so setup does not need a consultant. A trading business with no production, or a shop that needs on-premise software, is not the fit.

Is an ERP worth it for a 10 person company?

Yes, when stock, orders and costs are shared across more than one person and the spreadsheet no longer agrees with the shelf. The test is whether you can name last month's least profitable job. If not, the system pays for itself in margin.

How long does setup take for a very small shop?

With a cloud system built for small shops and a guide to follow, a few weeks of part-time work: items and stock first, then bills of materials, then work orders. Costing and quality follow once the basics are trusted.

How many ERP seats does a 10 person shop need?

Usually three to six: the owner, the office or purchasing person, a supervisor, and later the operators who scan job cards. Not every employee needs a login on day one.

Can I keep my accounting software and still use an ERP?

Yes. Either the ERP exports sales and purchase entries to your accounting system, or it has its own ledger and your accountant works there. Avoid entering the same invoice in both.
