## How costing works

1. **Material**

   Every issue to a job carries the item's current cost; returns credit the job. Over-issue and items not on the BOM need a reason.
2. **Labour**

   Hours logged per routing step at a work-centre rate. Change the rate and new entries use it; old entries keep theirs.
3. **Job work and subcontracting**

   Send material out against a job-work challan, receive the finished operation back, and keep the subcontractor's charge on the job.
4. **Quotes**

   A quote line can start from the BOM material cost and your labour estimate, so the margin is visible before you send it.

## What it is not

ZMOS gives you actual job cost; it does not do standard costing with variance analysis or activity-based overhead allocation.

## Questions

How does ZMOS calculate job cost?

Material issued at the item's current cost plus labour hours at the work-centre rate, per job; per-unit cost is the total divided by the quantity made.

Can I see cost while the job is open?

Yes. The job card shows cost to date; it is final when the job closes.

Does it handle job work (subcontracting) in India?

Yes: material sent out and received back against the job, with the subcontractor's charge added to the job cost. GST documents stay in your accounting package or in ZMOS accounting.
