# How much does a manufacturing ERP cost?

A manufacturing ERP for a 10 to 50 person shop has two kinds of cost. The licence is recurring, charged per user or per bundle of users each month or year. The one-off costs are implementation, data migration, training, customisation and integrations. For small cloud systems a common rule of thumb puts first-year implementation at one to three times the first year's licence, and the owner's own hours are the largest line nobody budgets.

- ERP pricing for small manufacturers
- ERP implementation cost
- ERP cost per user
- manufacturing software price

## The licence is the visible part

Most cloud ERPs for small manufacturers charge per named user each month, with a discount for paying annually. Some charge per bundle of seats, some per company with a user cap, and a few by transaction volume. Check what the price includes: modules, storage, API calls, support and updates are sometimes extras. A shop of 15 people rarely needs 15 licences. Count the people who will enter data or approve it, not everyone on the floor, and ask whether shop-floor terminals or barcode scanners need a seat each.

On-premise systems replace the subscription with a one-off licence plus an annual maintenance fee, and you run the server yourself.

## Implementation is the part that surprises people

Implementation covers configuring the system, loading your items, bills of materials, customers, vendors and opening stock, testing with real orders, and training the team. For a small shop on a cloud product that can range from a few days of guided setup to several weeks of partner work. A common rule of thumb is that first-year implementation costs between one and three times the first year's licence, with the higher end for larger or heavily customised systems.

- Configuration of modules, numbering, tax rates and roles
- Data migration from spreadsheets or the old system
- Training, usually a few hours per role
- Customisation and integrations, priced per hour or per feature

## The owner's time is the largest hidden cost

Someone inside the shop has to decide how items are named, which BOMs are current, what each work order status means, and who may change a price. That person is usually the owner or the plant manager, and the work takes evenings for several weeks. Budget it honestly: a few hours a week for the lead person through the whole project, plus an hour or two for each operator to learn their screens. Shops that skip this spend the money later in rework.

## A simple cost sheet for a small shop

Put these lines on one page before you compare vendors, and ask each vendor to fill in the same lines so the quotes are comparable.

| Line | What drives it |
| --- | --- |
| Licence | Users or seat bundles, billing term, included modules |
| Implementation | Days of setup and testing, partner or self-service |
| Data migration | How clean your spreadsheets are, number of records |
| Training | Roles to train, on-site or remote |
| Customisation | Fields, reports and workflows beyond the standard |
| Integrations | Accounting, e-commerce, bank feeds, customer portals |
| Your own time | Decisions, data cleaning, testing, follow-through |

## Where ZMOS fits

ZMOS prices by bundle of three seats rather than per user. Standard is ₹2,351 a month billed annually (₹2,799 monthly) and Business is ₹5,879 a month billed annually (₹6,999 monthly); Enterprise is custom, in INR or USD. Startups and registered partners get six months free with 3 users, 1 GB and 10,000 API calls a month, no card needed. Setup is self-service: CSV import plus a user guide with 54 step-by-step tasks, which suits shops of 10 to 50 people willing to do the work themselves. Shops that want engineers to run the setup can hire Zudo Works for a fixed-price project, budgeted separately.

Is a free ERP really free?

The licence may be free, but implementation, hosting, upgrades and support are not. Open-source systems such as ERPNext and Odoo Community are free to download and usually need a partner or an in-house technical person to set up and maintain, which is where the real cost sits.

Should I pay monthly or annually?

Pay monthly for the first few months while you prove the system works for your shop, then switch to annual billing for the discount once the team uses it every day. Check the cancellation and data export terms before committing to a year.

How many user licences does a 20 person shop need?

Usually far fewer than 20. Count the people who create or approve records: the owner, planner, stores, purchasing, accounts and one or two supervisors. Operators who only scan a job card or log time can often share a terminal, depending on how the vendor licenses it.

What costs come after go-live?

The subscription, extra users as you grow, occasional customisation, and training for new staff. Cloud vendors include updates in the fee. On-premise systems add server upkeep, backups and paid version upgrades, which are easy to forget in the first quote.
